Obituary for Douglas James Biden October 29, 1956- March 26, 2007
Doug died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family after a 2 year courageous struggle with pancreatic cancer. Doug is survived by his wife, Ingrid, (Abbott), daughter Hilary and son Nicholas, devoted siblings Susanne, Maureen, and Ron, niece Janika, nephew Doug. Predeceases by Eleanor and James Biden.
Doug grew up in the Dunbar area of Vancouver graduating from Lord Byng High School in 1974. Art was his lifelong passion that flourished at the Vancouver School of Art and continued as a teacher on the Outreach Program for Emily Carr College of Art and Design introducing printmaking to students all over the province of B.C.
His deep love of travel began on a year-long odyssey to Europe and North Africa inspiring further travels to Mexico, Peru, Nepal, India, South East Asia, Newfoundland and New York City.
Following his marriage to Ingrid they moved to Montreal where Doug graduated with his MFA from Concordia University. After returning to Vancouver, and the birth of their two children, Doug was appointed to the Faculty of Okanagan University College, now UBCO, in Kelowna, where he inspired students for over 10 years and found great inspiration from dialogue and collaborations with other artists.
Doug's spiritual attachment to Ireland was driven by his love of the landscape, music, and the people. He made many trips to the green isle to work, explore and drink Guinness.
Doug will be greatly missed by his family, friends, colleagues, students, and patrons who appreciated his enthusiasm for music, nature, baseball, tennis and soccer. He attended 3 World Cups, and was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed sharing the activities of his children leaving a legacy of which he can be justifiably proud.
Doug's remains are interred at Seaview Cemetery in Gibsons, B.C.
