Atlas of the Body Transparent
Atlas of the Body Transparent was a labor of love for Doug Biden who became fascinated with the book making process in the late 90's. He was excited about combining the literal and the visual which he succeeded with his completion of the Atlas book project in the summer of 1997. The lyrics of British poet musician Roy Harper provided the perfect opportunity to express Biden's frustration with what he called, "the human to human atrocities prevailing over this violent century".

Curator Larry Westlake says,"Biden presents us with the multiple choreographed clustered images of the body as the agent and subject of experience, overlapping and inner penetrating each other, standing as symbols of our internalization of the values and functions we experience as conscious objects".

Biden was fascinated and preoccupied with images of the human body and its interior anatomy. "The inherent aesthetic beauty is profound in itself, but I also see this internal world, (that governs life), linking us collectively in terms of our vulnerability, peril and fate. This is due to my own life, (birth and death experiences), and also derives from the current situation of which we see the complex mystery of genetic experimentation".

Atlas has been exhibited in galleries throughout the province of British Columbia and is in the permanent collections of several distinguished library's throughout North America.
